Kenneth Cyclone not to hit Burundi, IGEBU reassures

Since April 25, information flows that a cyclone called Kenneth is likely to hit the East African countries.

IGEBU station

Augustin Ntirampeba, Director General of the Burundi Geographical Institute-IGEBU, assures that Burundi is not exposed to the danger. He indicates that the Cyclone Kenneth that was coming from the Indian Ocean with a speed of 120 km / h was stopped by the mountains in southern Tanzania.

“We observed a cyclone in northern Madagascar that threatened to enter Africa through Tanzania. This Cyclone started with low speed, but it increased the speed to about 120km / h, “says the Director of IGEBU adding that after entering Tanzania, the Cyclone reduced its speed to 80km / h.

“The hurricane did not continue its way. It was blocked by the mountains in southern Tanzania,” says Ntirampeba adding that Burundians should not worry since Cyclone Kenneth has turned back.

In the far north of Mozambique, tens of thousands of people are threatened by the “devastating” flood following the crossing of cyclone Kenneth, which has already caused at least 38 deaths and enormous damage.
