UN Secretary General calls on Burundi to build inclusive society

Speaking on behalf of the UN Secretary General, Walter Kazadi Mulombo, has called on Burundi to get inspired by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in order to build an inclusive and fair society.

Burundi government has joined the world in the celebration of the Peace Day this September 21, 2018. Walter Kazadi Mulombo, WHO representative in Burundi who delivered the speech on behalf of the UNSG, has said the message to the world from Antonio Guteress, UN Secretary General is most important for Burundi as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights – UDHR will celebrate its 70th anniversary in December. “UDHR reminds us that there is no lasting peace unless everyone can live, prosper without hunger or poverty”.

He says the declaration is a key foundation to rely on in fighting against oppression. “It defends an inclusive society where everyone participates in the process of developing and building a fair society”.

He also reminds that peace is one of the five pillars of Sustainable Development Goals- SDGs. “We must guarantee the achievement of SDGs by following the universal declaration of human rights”.

He calls on everybody’s responsibility to reinforce peace and development. “Everyone must intervene at their level and make an effort in the contribution to the building of a peaceful society,” he has said.
Festivities in Burundi began with peace rally in Musaga zone in the southern part of Bujumbura city.
