CNARED to participate in 2020 elections

Anicet Niyonkuru, Executive Secretary of CNARED, an opposition platform in exile says members of the council living in the country have decided to participate in the 2020 elections.

“Even though CNARED may not join others in the electoral process, our members have decided that they will vote at any cost”, says Niyonkuru adding that the Council will support them to elect the leaders they really want. He has said that after a two-day meeting between CNARED members.

The Executive Secretary says members of the council are analyzing the electoral process. “It will be better if the 2020 elections are as inclusive as possible,” he says.
Mr. Niyonkuru says CNARED is waiting for Burundi government to convene a meeting on how the elections will be organized.

“The will of Burundi government is very important for us to participate in the upcoming elections,” he says.

Prosper Ntahorwamiye, Spokesperson for Burundi government, says the country is not yet ready to express its position on the probable participation of CNARED in the upcoming elections.
