2020 Elections: Kira Burundi Coalition accepts provisional results

Aloys Baricako, Chairman of Kira Burundi Coalition says his political Coalition doesn’t reject the provisional results of the presidential and legislative elections released on Monday by the electoral body. “We don’t want to see once again any Burundian being killed or fleeing his country due to the electoral conflict,” says Baricako, a day after the release of the provisional results of the general elections.

On 25 May, the Independent National Electoral Commission-CENI declared Evariste Ndayishimiye, candidate for the ruling CNDD-FDD party, the winner of the presidential election with 68, 72%. He is followed by Agathon Rwasa, Ndayishimiye’s main challenger and candidate of CNL party with 24, 19%. Former president Domitien Ndayizeye representing Kira Burundi Coalition has got 0,55%.

Aloys Baricako says the general elections of May 20 were marred by enormous irregularities. “I believe that the vote buying will progressively end if all Burundians become politically mature,” he says. Chairman of Kira Burundi coalition calls on the winner to rule for everyone.

On May 20, Burundians went to the polls to vote for the president, MPs and communal councilors.
