Over 5 million Burundians registered to vote in upcoming elections

Pierre Claver Kazihise, Chairman of the National Independent Electoral Commission-CENI has announced that the final list of Burundians who will cast a vote in the upcoming elections is available now.

Pierre Claver Kazihise: “We have released these figures today to meet the already set schedule.”

“5,126,351 voters including 2, 688,803 women and 2,437,548 men have been registered for the forthcoming elections”, said Mr. Kazihise at a press conference that the National Electoral Commission has held in Bujumbura City this February 3, 2020.

He also said there are 12,933 Burundians living abroad who will participate in the next elections. “We are releasing these figures today to meet the already set schedule,” he added.
In 2015, CENI had registered over four million Burundians to vote in elections.

On 20 May 2020, the presidential, legislative and communal councilors’ elections will be organized according to the electoral code. The senators’ election is scheduled for July 20, 2020 and the hill councilors’ election for August 24.
