One killed in western region of Burundi

At least one person shot dead and another injured by Charles Hakizimana, a police officer in Mpanda commune in Bubanza province in the night of June 14. Rénovat Nduwayo, owner of a local bar, has been accused of turning on the radio.

According to Frédéric Congera, administrator of Mpanda commune in Bubanza province, the police officer who was drunk, asked the owner of the bar to give back a USB device used to play the songs. “The police officer didn’t wait to receive it before shooting him,” says Congera.

He also says the perpetrator has been arrested by his colleagues for investigation. Frédéric Congera calls on the police officers to not to go to bars after taking beer.

On 11 June, members of the cabinet have decided to suspend all music in bars, nightclubs and karaoke following the passing of President Pierre Nkurunziza on June 8.
