“There must be a compensation for those who had lands near Kajeke river area because of the work activities to build a dam. The latter will serve to irrigate rice plants at Imbo plain,” states Joseph Nduwimana, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock. According to him, the Ministry has to comply with the law about the lands in rural and urban areas. Therefore the code stipulates that there should be negotiations. “So, we have made negotiations and agreed to pay an amount of BIF 250 per square meter. Concerning the plants, the ministerial regulation, it clearly shows what compensation should be given to each plant. What is strange, compensations have already been given to those who had lands in the area,” states the Secretary.

He goes on saying that the compensations were given in installments in 2012 and 2013

He adds that what is surprising is that there are those who say that their lands haven’t been compensated. “There are false announcements by crooks and the use false documents to revolt people about the compensation of the lands. Unknown people who make the announcement imitate the signature of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock and use the former stamp used by the Ministry,” highlights Nduwimana. Nduwimana mentions that this announcement has even been read in the churches. “We ask the police to help us to search for the authors stop and punish them seriously and accordingly, because we don’t have any problem of land compensation. Even Anti Corruption authorities have already made things clear and finish their jobs,” concludes the Secretary.
