Forex dealer “Kirahwata” discovered dead in central Bujumbura city

Jackson Simbananiye aka “Kirahwata”, one of the most popular forex dealers in Bujumbura City was discovered dead in the morning of May 14.

His corpse was found in a gutter located along “Imprimerie” avenue, section II of Nyakabiga neighborhood of Mukaza commune in central Bujumbura city.

Local sources reported that they discovered his dead body in the early morning, around 7a.m. “He would have been strangled,” says a man met on the crime scene. He also says a rope was tied around his neck. “This meant that his perpetrators strangled him before throwing him into this gutter around midnight,” says another man met on the ground adding that his body was wet. Local sources also say judicial officers rushed to the place to witness the incident. The dead identified as Jackson Simbananiye nicknamed “Kirahwata” was taken to “Roi Khaled” hospital mortuary.

Pierre Nkurikiye, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Security says Kirahwata’s family alerted the police that the forex dealer had just been abducted by unknown perpetrators around 8:10 p.m. this May 13. “The police immediately started the investigation and a suspected perpetrator has already been arrested,” he says.

In the evening of May 13, alerts were spread on social media on the abduction of Jackson Simbananiye after had a sauna session in Rohero neighborhood in Mukaza commune in Bujumbura city. Kidnappers might have taken him in a car marked “Toyota IT- HA 8105.

In September 2019, Jackson Simbananiye and his son as well as his employee were arrested and detained in Mpimba central prison. He was accused of violating the forex trading rules.
