Ex-President Domitien Ndayizeye to represent Kira-Burundi coalition in presidential elections

“Kira Burundi has chosen his Excellency Domitien Ndayizeye as its candidate for the next 2020 presidential elections,” announced Aloys Baricako, representative of the political Coalition Kira Burundi at a press conference held on 2 March, 2020. He fulfills all the criteria fixed by the coalition to pick a candidate for the presidential elections, according to Baricako adding that Kira-Burundi coalition has chosen him from many candidates.

Leaders of political parties gathered in Kira-Burundi coalition referred to Article 6 of the General Agreement to choose former President Domitien Ndayizeye. The article stipulates that the coalition candidate for presidential elections must be designated by leaders of the member parties following the criteria fixed by the same coalition.

Kira-Burundi coalition was created on 19 February and made up of four political parties namely RANAC, PAJUDE, CDP and FDES.

The CDP party withdrew from this coalition on 27 February arguing that its members wanted to impose their candidate for presidential elections.

Baricako rejects these accusations, which he describes as unfounded. “We created the coalition on 19 February after the CDP party held the General Assembly on 2 February. They had chosen their presidential candidate,” said Baricako, who added that CDP members should not join the coalition.
