COVID-19: Government calls on Burundians to implore God to bar virus

Prosper Ntahorwamiye, Spokesperson for the government, says Burundi doesn’t have any special expertise in the prevention of COVID-19 compared to other countries already affected by the disease. “Only grace’s God has protected Burundi”, he said in a statement issued this 25 March. He also said the population must continue to abide by the hygienic measures already taken to bar the outbreak of the novel coronavirus in the country. He added that possible progressive measures will be taken according to the prevailing situation.

The Burundian government, however, warned anyone, whether a Burundian or a foreigner who, for various reasons, disoriented and manipulated the opinion, that active, extreme and unilateral measures would be taken. Prosper Ntahorwamiye, here denounced the closing of the activities of two schools “Ecole Francçaise” and “Ecole Belge”. “For such and similar behavior, the government confirms that it reserves the right to take appropriate measures relating thereto which are necessary when the time comes”, he said.

The government Spokesperson then called on all Burundians and all people living in Burundi to abide by the hygienic measures and continue to pray to God. “As God has been put forward, all Burundians are asked wherever they are to always implore God so that he continues to protect the country, Burundians as well as foreigners living in our country”, he concluded.
