COVID-19: Burundi artists to anticipate market measures

Adalbert Hazikimana, Executive Officer in the Sectorial Chamber of Arts and Crafts -SHASAA- says the outbreak of COVID-19 in Burundi has affected the artistic sector. “Tourists were our main customers as they could easily find our products in different hotels,” says Hakizimana.

Adalbert hakizimana:”We are struggling to fight COVID-19. We must benefit from these opportunities to create new products”

He says there is a big loss and some artists can no longer fulfil their families’ needs. “We don’t earn enough revenues to satisfy the needs of our families,” he says.

CHASAA Executive Officer also says they work in associations to produce good quality products. “We are struggling to fight COVID-19. We must benefit from these opportunities to create new products,” he says.

Hakizimana urges all artists to always adjust themselves to the political and economic environment to increase their production. “We must anticipate the market needs and produce new items. For instance, some artists should make masks as they are needed today,” he says.
Burundi has, so far, registered 83 cases of COVID-19 including 43 recoveries and one death.
