Burundi parliament approves Deputy President and Prime Minister

The Higher and lower chambers of Burundi Parliament have this June 23 approved Prosper Bazombanza and Alain Guillaume Bunyoni as Deputy President and Prime Minister respectively.

MPs approve two high level executive officials

Prosper Bazombanza was approved by 91 MPs and Alain Guillaume Bunyoni by 92 MPs of the 94 MPs who were present and the vote was held secretly.

The two high level government officials were proposed by the new Burundi President, Evariste Ndayishimiye based on Article 123 and 130 of the constitution.

After they were approved by the National Assembly, Burundi Senate also approved them.
Pascal Nyabenda, speaker of the National Assembly has said they will be sworn in before the president Evariste Ndayishimiye at the National Assembly, this June 24.

Prosper Bazombanza, former First Deputy President from 2014 to 2015, was the Secretary General of the Insurance Regulatory and Control Agency –ARCA. He was also the Governor of Mwaro Province and held the post of Director General of the National Institute for Social Security -INSS from 2016 to 2017.

As for Alain Guillaume Bunyoni, he is the Minister of Public Security from 2015 until now. Before being the Permanent Secretary of the National Security Council from 2014 to 2015, Bunyoni was the chief of the civil cabinet in the office of the president from 2011 to 2014.
