Burundi: Only press card holders to be allowed to work from July

“Journalists or communication technicians who do not have a press card will not be allowed to work from July 2020,” said Nestor Bankumukunzi, Chairman of Burundi Media Regulator (CNC) this 22 April after a two-day meeting of committee members held from 21 to 22 April in the Burundian economic capital Bujumbura.

Nestor Bankumukunzi, CNC Chairman: “812 press cards have already been issued to applicants meeting the requirements”

Mr Bankumukunzi indicated that 812 press cards have already been issued to applicants meeting the requirements.

All the press card applicants must submit their files to the CNC secretariat as soon as possible so that they are all served by July.

He reassures that the process of issuing these press cards which was officially launched in July 2019 will accelerate as the problem that slowed it in the past has been resolved.

“The CNC has awarded the contract to manufacture these press cards to a new company after noticing shortcomings with the first customer,” said Nestor Bankumukunzi.

The new company is doing its job properly, reassured the CNC chairman adding that a journalist who submits their complete file receives their press card after three days.
