Red Cross Burundi has officially launched, this 27 October, a project that will be mainly implemented in Bujumbura City and two other provinces namely Rumonge and Bujumbura. According to Alexis Manirakiza, spokesman of Red Cross Burundi, this project aims to improve the prevention of Sexual and Gender -Based Violence-SGBV and the care of the victims of the latter.

He explains that this new project will change people’s perception and behavior, increase access to services supporting those victims especially survivors of displaced camps.”We will assist victims of violence by providing them with psychological, medical and legal assistance if they need to prosecute those who tormented them,” mentions Manirakiza. He goes on to saythat women and girls are much more vulnerable to SGBV than anyone.

Anselme Katiyunguruza, Secretary General of Red Cross Burundi calls on all Burundians to support those victims as such an ignoble practice is prevailing all over the country. “Red Cross Burundi is committed to strengthening the capacities of various structures that assist victims of sexual and gender-based violence,” he concludes.
