New partnership agreement between the Red Cross and the Burundi government

The Burundi government and the Red Cross Burundi signed a new partnership agreement on September 17th. The Red Cross Burundi is committed to help the society with more assurance and efficiency because of the new tool.-J.Berchmans Siboniyo

Laurent Kavakure, the Minister of Foreign Affairs states that the Burundi government appreciates the Red Cross’ achievements towards the Burundian population, especially the assistance to victims of natural disasters and epidemics. He adds that the Red Cross helped the government in the peace and reconciliation process through different activities gathering all Burundi ethnics organized the Red Crescent and the Red Cross. “This motivates us to agree to a renewed partnership with this international organization. We will do our best to support it.”

Pamphile Kantabaze, the Chairman of the Red Cross Burundi: “We were working on the basis of the Decree-Law of 1963 up-to now. This hampered our work. We now move from informal collaboration to a formal partnership. This new agreement will grant us with government assurance and improve efficiency in our activities. We promise the government to increase our commitment to helping those in need”. He explains that, through this new agreement, the government will help in exonerating the products from abroad needed to help the victims. From his side, he promised to assist in the coming election process by creating a community radio station and providing volunteers at every voting station, to provide first aid when necessary.
