Gabriel Bihumugani, CNC legal adviser, says other members of the council are visiting other media in order to see their working conditions. “These visits also aim to remind the media about the texts of the organic law governing the National Security Council and the law governing the press promulgated respectively in March and September of this year,” he says, adding that it is important to know the articles that have been amended to avoid some mistakes committed because of ignorance.

Mr. Bihumugani says it is necessary to focus on the social responsibility of the journalist while treating the information. “Before publishing the news, journalists have to consider its impact on the community,” he says, adding that some information should not be broadcast because they may offend people.

Léandre Sikuyavuga, Iwacu editor in chief, says he appreciated the visit. “It shows that the current CNC authorities want to collaborate with the heads of the media”.

He says mastering these texts of the laws will allow journalists to know how to do their job. «Journalists are sometimes unaware of the content of the laws while it should guide them and shed light on their daily work “.

Mr. Sikuyavuga said it was also an opportunity to tell Mr. Bihumugani that some spokespersons do not want to give information to journalists and shed light on what is happening in their institutions.
The CNC legal adviser has visited all of Iwacu services to end his tour.
