Summary: The U.S. Mission in Bujumbura, Burundi is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Political Specialist.

The work schedule for this position is Full Time (40 hours per week).

Start date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time of receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

Supervisory Position: No

DUTIES:

The candidate performs under the GSO Property Unit, serves as Warehouseman managing and maintaining warehouse contents stored therein: moving supplies, equipment, and furniture between offices, residences, loading and unload furnishings and equipment from trucks at warehouse and residences located both on compound and throughout the city. The candidate handles setup and breakdown of event equipment, assist in inventory control of accountable property, providing escort services for local contractors. He/she works alone or as a team member to provide escort and perform manual tasks by using physical strength, equipment, or machinery.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EVALUATIONS:

EDUCATION: Completion of elementary school is required.

REQUIREMENTS:

EXPERIENCE: One year working experience with moving, loading, and unloading furniture or other heavy equipment required.

JOB KNOWLEDGE: Must be able to distinguish between furniture and equipment, heavy and fragile items. Must know proper space use and proper stacking of goods on shelves, floors, houses and warehouse cages.

EVALUATIONS:

LANGUAGE: Level I (Basic Knowledge) Speaking/Reading/Writing English is required. Level II (Limited) Speaking/Reading/Writing French is required. Level II (Limited) Speaking/Reading/Writing Kirundi is required. Note that language proficiency will be tested.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Effectively participate in a receiving, storage, and distribution operation. Perform moderate to heavy manual tasks. Understand and carry out oral and written directions. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships. Lift and carry heavy loads (up to 70 lbs /32 kg) according to SHEM regulations. Cross-train to provide coverage during absences in any GSO Property Management section.
Qualifications: All applicants may be tested on any requirements listed above. All applicants under consideration will be required to pass medical and security certifications. All candidates must be able to obtain and hold a Local Security Certification.

HIRING PREFERENCE SELECTION PROCESS: Applicants in the following hiring preference categories are extended a hiring preference in the order listed below. * IMPORTANT: Applicants who claim status as a preference-eligible U.S. Veteran must submit a copy of their most recent DD-214 (“Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty”), equivalent documentation, or certification. A “certification” is any written document from the armed forces that certifies the service member is expected to be discharged or released from active duty service in the armed forces under honorable conditions within 120 days after the certification is submitted by the applicant. The certification letter should be on letterhead of the appropriate military branch of the service and contain (1) the military service dates including the expected discharge or release date; and (2) the character of service. Acceptable documentation must be submitted in order for the preference to be given.
** This level of preference applies to all Foreign Service employees on LWOP and CS with re-employment rights back to their agency or bureau.
