Cndd-Fdd party supports democracy and independence and the new constitution is the foundation of an independent and democratic Burundi,\u201d R\u00e9v\u00e9rien Ndikuriyo said.<\/p>\n<p>The leader of the Senate also said Burundi is free to take decisions as an independent country and no foreigners should raise concerns over that. \u201cForeigners have their own constitutions and are free to amend them. They should not raise voices if Burundians decide to change the country\u2019s constitution\u201d.<br \/>\nHe has called on Burundians to vote for the referendum saying it is one way of showing foreigners that they are responsible for their fate.<\/p>\n<p>The senate speaker has also reminded Burundians about different crises that Burundi has suffered due to foreigners\u2019 invasion. \u201cOn 21 August 1925, Belgians introduced ethnic divisions among Burundians. In 1961, foreigners killed our independence hero\u2026It is high time we valued and prioritized people\u2019s opinions and the new constitution is the right opportunity,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Ndikuriyo also said the new constitution clarifies some points that were the subject of confusion and misunderstanding in 2015. \u201cArticles 96 and 302 of the constitution that caused confusion and disagreements have been removed and others were edited,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Some other authorities from Cndd- Fdd party like Evelyne Butoyi, Minister of Youth, post and information technology, Jean Marie Niyokindi, Minister of commerce, industry and tourism and Gabriel Ntisezerana, former Senate leader have participated in that campaign that was held in Rusaka commune of Mwaro province.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>During the campaign for the upcoming constitutional referendum that was held in Mwaro province this Thursday May 3rd 2018, the Senate leader, who launched the activities, has called the population to vote for the referendum saying it will reinforce their independence.
