The good news is that the World Bank is going to compensate the breeders who lost their goats\u201d, said D\u00e9o Guide Rurema, Burundian Minister of Agriculture and Livestock.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Rurema congratulates his ministry\u2019s staff, the administration and all the population because they have successfully avoided the consumption of the meat of contaminated ruminants. \u201cWe have not got any report of a person who would have consumed the contaminated meat. I appreciate the role played by each and everyone,\u201d he has said.<\/p>\n<p>He has also said there are strategies to be adopted so as to control all the imported seeds and ruminants. \u201cThe ministry of agriculture and livestock has started carrying out tighter checks on imported seeds and ruminants\u201d, says Rurema.<\/p>\n<p>He adds that the ministry is awaiting FAO experts to help eradicate such epidemic. \u201cFAO has promised to send experts who will examine what should be imported. This will help prevent the epidemic,\u201d says Rurema.<\/p>\n<p>Over three hundred goats were reported dead in January due to an epidemic which broke out in Bugendana commune of Gitega province and was later reported in Mwaro and Kirundo provinces.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An epidemic has recently ravaged goats in Gitega, Mwaro and Kirundo provinces.
