Rather he calls on everyone to contribute by raising the awareness on the fight against it.<br \/>\nTo better deal with this problem, the Ministry of Health has set up a health program that closely follows the trends of HIV \/ AIDS infection in Burundi.<\/p>\n<p>The 2017 UNAIDS data show that an estimated 36.7 million people were living with HIV (including 1.8 million children) \u2013 with a global HIV prevalence of 0.8% among adults in 2016. Around 30% of these same people do not know that they have the virus.<\/p>\n<p>Since the start of the epidemic, an estimated 78 million people have become infected with HIV and 35 million people have died of AIDS-related illnesses. In 2016, 1 million people died of AIDS-related illnesses.<\/p>\n<p>The vast majority of people living with HIV are located in low- and middle- income countries, with an estimated 25.5 million living in sub-Saharan Africa.
