Thus, we will go further to reach as many people as possible. Besides, it has been the wish of many of our readers, partners and friends of Burundi. That new service will therefore help our country in its opening-up, an opening-up that has already been effective through the EAC. In fact, our landlocked country must open up to the rest of the world. Development serves that end. Thanks to new information technologies, Iwacu will therefore take “those voices of Burundi” to the wider world, given that the English language is an invaluable tool to go beyond boundaries.

With our publications in Kirundi, French and from now on, in English, Iwacu puts weight to its supply. Henceforth, our English-speaking readership will access news delivered by our team of professional, independent and passionate journalists. Our wish is to make Iwacu, both an information platform for all those who desire to know and understand the progress of Burundi and a forum of cultures. This is because we will be glad to publish opinions of our readers, talk with the diaspora and the friends of Burundi.

I seize this opportunity to thank all those who have been lending a helping hand for the last several months for the setting in motion of this project. We are grateful to Jess Hatcher, Phil Moore, Laurence Dierickx, Mary Stata, Elise Ford, Seif Gahushi, and others. We also thank the Guardian for their welcome to London and all their practical pieces of advice. That newspaper remains a reference for us. Likewise, we thank Le Monde with which we have established partnership for our publications in French. Finally, we say a big thank you to the technical team made of Elvis Mugisha , Dany Nzeyimana, Anémone Kubwimana, Roméo Mukasi, Onesphore Nibigira and others.

To the new team of the English section headed by Diane Uwimana, I wish you good luck. Be the best! Live up to high quality journalistic standards: that’s the brand name of the Iwacu Press Group. It’s thanks to that trademark that we have been acknowledged far beyond Burundian boundaries.

Antoine Kaburahe
Publications manager.

This 19 July, Iwacu officially launches its website in English.
