Before being sworn in, Bishop Simon Ntamwana prayed for the President-elect. \u201cMay the Lord enlighten you so that you do good achievements in Burundi, so that you strengthen love among Burundians and repatriate refugees,\u201d said Bishop Ntamwana.<\/p>\n<p>Evariste Ndayishimiye swore to be loyal to the constitution of Burundi and national unity charter. According to Article 107 of the Constitution, Ndayishimiye swore before Almighty God and before the Burundian people. In front of various officials and guests, he said: \u201cBefore Almighty God and before the Burundian people, I, Evariste Ndayishimiye, swear to be loyal to the charter of national unity, the Constitution of the Republic of Burundi and the law\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Afterwards, President Evariste Ndayishimiye delivered his first speech as president. He has said he will promote human rights, consolidate national sovereignty and open doors to countries wishing to cooperate with Burundi.<\/p>\n<p>He has also said he will improve the judicial sector and living condition of retirees. He has also called on political parties and their members to express freely their points of view. \u201cBurundians are legally equal,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Apart from the diplomatic missions accredited to Burundi, other foreign officials who attended the swearing-in ceremonies of the new Burundi president include Former Tanzania President Jakaya Kikwete, Deputy President of Tanzania, Congo-Brazzaville Foreign Affairs Minister, special envoys from Egypt, Gabon\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Evariste Ndayishimiye, 52, who will serve seven years in office, was expected to take office on August 20.
