{"id":16338,"date":"2020-06-11T06:46:04","date_gmt":"2020-06-11T06:46:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.iwacu-burundi.org\/englishnews\/?p=16338"},"modified":"2020-06-11T06:46:29","modified_gmt":"2020-06-11T06:46:29","slug":"politicians-mourn-death-of-president-pierre-nkurunziza","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.iwacu-burundi.org\/englishnews\/politicians-mourn-death-of-president-pierre-nkurunziza\/","title":{"rendered":"Politicians mourn death of President Pierre Nkurunziza"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Burundian government announced an \u201cunexpected\u201d death of the Burundian president Pierre Nkurunziza in the afternoon of June 9.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_13055\" style=\"width: 534px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13055\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-13055\" src=\"https:\/\/www.iwacu-burundi.org\/englishnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/NKURUNZIZA-copy.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"524\" height=\"301\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.iwacu-burundi.org\/englishnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/NKURUNZIZA-copy.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.iwacu-burundi.org\/englishnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/NKURUNZIZA-copy-300x173.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.iwacu-burundi.org\/englishnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/NKURUNZIZA-copy-768x442.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.iwacu-burundi.org\/englishnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/NKURUNZIZA-copy-600x345.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 524px) 100vw, 524px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-13055\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">President Pierre Nkurunziza,55, is said to have died of a cardiac arrest<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Prosper Ntahorwamiye, Spokesperson for the Burundian government said President Pierre Nkurunziza died due to a cardiac arrest in hospital in Karusi Province in the morning of June 8 after feeling discomfort in the night of June 6.<\/p>\n<p>L\u00e9once Ngendakumana, candidate of Sahwanya FRODEBU party in the recent general elections held on May 20 says President Nkurunziza\u2019s death is a huge loss for Burundi and the entire nation.<br \/>\n\u201cHe was a personality who resisted to pressure, firm in decision making, proud of himself and who loved prayer and sports,\u201d says Ngendakumana.<\/p>\n<p>He exhorts the Burundian people to remain serene and avoid any form of speculation. \u201cWe must consolidate unity and cohesion in these hard times,\u201d he says.<br \/>\nAs for Domitien Ndayizeye, former Burundian president and candidate for Kira Burundi coalition in the previous presidential election, he deplores the \u201cunexpected\u201d death of President Pierre Nkurunziza.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe didn\u2019t expect this tragic disappearance two months before the handover of power to his successor\u201d, says Ndayizeye.<\/p>\n<p>He says President Pierre Nkurunziza succeeded in integrating political affairs after spending many years in the then rebel movement CNDD-FDD and current ruling party. \u201cIt was not easy but he achieved many things,\u201d says Ndayizeye.<\/p>\n<p>He also adds that the deceased president has many supporters as the National Assembly has recently ranked him as the \u201cSupreme Guide to Patriotism.
