{"id":16195,"date":"2020-05-26T06:42:09","date_gmt":"2020-05-26T06:42:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.iwacu-burundi.org\/englishnews\/?p=16195"},"modified":"2020-05-26T06:42:09","modified_gmt":"2020-05-26T06:42:09","slug":"ruling-party-candidate-wins-presidential-election","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.iwacu-burundi.org\/englishnews\/ruling-party-candidate-wins-presidential-election\/","title":{"rendered":"Ruling party candidate wins presidential election"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The National Independent Electoral Commission-CENI announced this May 25, the provisional results of the presidential and legislative elections held on May 20. <\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_15940\" style=\"width: 553px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15940\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-15940\" src=\"https:\/\/www.iwacu-burundi.org\/englishnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Ndayishimiye-Campagne-CNDD-FDD-Bugendana.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"543\" height=\"312\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.iwacu-burundi.org\/englishnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Ndayishimiye-Campagne-CNDD-FDD-Bugendana.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.iwacu-burundi.org\/englishnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Ndayishimiye-Campagne-CNDD-FDD-Bugendana-300x173.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.iwacu-burundi.org\/englishnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Ndayishimiye-Campagne-CNDD-FDD-Bugendana-768x442.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.iwacu-burundi.org\/englishnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Ndayishimiye-Campagne-CNDD-FDD-Bugendana-600x345.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 543px) 100vw, 543px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-15940\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">General Major Evariste Ndayishimiye wins presidential election<\/p><\/div>\n<p>According to the CENI, Evariste Ndayishimiye, candidate for the ruling CNDD-FDD party is the winner of the presidential election with 68, 72% and is followed by Agathon Rwasa, his main challenger and candidate for CNL party with 24, 19%.<\/p>\n<p>For the legislative election, the CNDD-FDD party has won 72 places at the National Assembly while CNL and UPRONA parties have got 27 and 1 places respectively.<br \/>\nPierre Claver Kazihise, CENI Chairman has said that the electoral process went smoothly and was well organized. \u201cThe poll compilation was transparently conducted in the presence of all observers,\u201d said Kazihise.<\/p>\n<p>As for Joseph Ntakarutimana, Deputy Secretary of the ruling CNDD-FDD party, the victory is for all Burundians and will sustainable development. \u201cWe believe that the previous crisis won\u2019t happen again in the country,\u201d he has said.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with Iwacu Press Group, Agathon Rwasa had, on Friday, rejected the election results saying his party won the elections in all three-combined elections.<br \/>\nHe also said he had enough evidence to prove it. \u201cThis is a real fiasco marred by enormous irregularities\u201d, he said adding that he didn\u2019t intend to negotiate with any person. \u201cThe choice of people must be respected,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>On May 20, over 4.4 million of Burundians <a href=\"https:\/\/iwacu.global.ssl.fastly.net\/englishnews\/2020-electionstowards-electoral-showdown\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">went to the polls<\/a> to vote for the president, MPs and members of the communal council.<\/p>\n<p>Seven candidates were running for president.
