The electoral campaign for the upcoming presidential, legislative and municipal elections in Burundi scheduled for 20 May, 2020 was officially launched this 27 April. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Pierre Nkurunziza, outgoing president and Evariste Ndayishimiye, candidate of CNDD-FDD launching electoral election in Gitega Province<\/p><\/div>\n

The ruling CNDD-FDD party conducted these activities in Bugendana commune of Gitega central province which is also the country\u2019s political capital.<\/p>\n

In his speech, Evariste Ndayishimiye, Secretary general of the ruling party and candidate for the presidential election thanked the outgoing president for having strengthened peace and security in the country.<\/p>\n

He promises to follow in his footsteps, develop the agricultural sector, natural resources, set up processing factories, support investors and boost the country’s economy.<\/p>\n

“I will never sleep as long as Burundian children still do not have access to quality education and health care,” says Ndayishimiye.<\/p>\n

As for Agathon Rwasa, chairman of the main opposition party National Congress for Liberty (CNL), he has launched the electoral campaign in Ngozi, his native province, in the north of the country.<\/p>\n

In his speech, mr Rwasa has denounced that his supporters were prevented from arriving at the campaign site. “We regret that they do not want us to play politics” said the CNL party chairman.<\/p>\n

This political opponent says strengthening the private sector, fighting poverty and reducing unemployment rate are some of his society projects.
\nHe also intends to restore diplomatic relations between Burundi and other countries \u201cwhich have deteriorated.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gaston Sindimwo, First vice-president and candidate of UPRONA party has launched the electoral campaign in Mwaro central province.<\/p>\n

L\u00e9once Ngendakumana, presidential candidate of FRODEBU party conducted the campaign in Kinama neighborhood in the north of the economic capital Bujumbura while the independent candidate Dieudonn\u00e9 Nahimana started his campaign in Kinindo neighborhood, in the south of Bujumbura.<\/p>\n

The political coalition Kira-Burundi was in Muramvya Province in the center of the country.
