One of the two taps installed in this neighborhood was turned off,\u201d says a mother of three from Gikungu neighborhood.<br \/>\nFor her, a single tap cannot serve all Gikungu residents.<br \/>\n&#8220;We are forced to use water from the river,&#8221; she says, adding that she fears contracting illnesses caused by poor hygiene.<\/p>\n<p>Abraham Ntirandekura, chief of Gikungu area says Gikungu residents run the risk of contracting coronavirus which is claiming human lives around the world.<br \/>\n&#8220;They are deeply concerned that they are not effectively protecting themselves from COVID-19 as we are asked to wash regularly ours hands with clean water which they don\u2019t have,&#8221; says Ntirandekura.<\/p>\n<p>He calls on the company distributing water and electricity [REGIDESO] to supply water to that area especially in this critical period. &#8220;We have referred this problem to REGIDESO agents, but we have got no feedback from them so far,&#8221; says Ntirandekura.<\/p>\n<p>REGIDESO management says it is aware of this problem and is seeking a solution.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Residents of Gihungu neighborhood of Gihosha area in the north of the economic capital Bujumbura say they have not got drinking water since the past few weeks.
