{"id":14853,"date":"2020-01-09T06:22:38","date_gmt":"2020-01-09T06:22:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.iwacu-burundi.org\/englishnews\/?p=14853"},"modified":"2020-01-09T06:22:38","modified_gmt":"2020-01-09T06:22:38","slug":"over-5-million-burundians-expected-to-participate-in-2020-election","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.iwacu-burundi.org\/englishnews\/over-5-million-burundians-expected-to-participate-in-2020-election\/","title":{"rendered":"Over 5 million Burundians expected to participate in 2020 election"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Four Burundian Ministers visited this 8 January 2020 the data processing center of the Independent National Electoral Commission [CENI] to inquire about the progress of the activities of inputting voters who were registered during <a href=\"https:\/\/iwacu.collateral-freedom.org\/englishnews\/voters-registration-process-running-smoothly-ceni-says\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the partial voters\u2019registration campaign organized from 9 to 12 December, 2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_14854\" style=\"width: 492px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14854\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-14854\" src=\"https:\/\/www.iwacu-burundi.org\/englishnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/CENI.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"482\" height=\"277\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.iwacu-burundi.org\/englishnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/CENI.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.iwacu-burundi.org\/englishnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/CENI-300x173.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.iwacu-burundi.org\/englishnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/CENI-768x442.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.iwacu-burundi.org\/englishnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/CENI-600x345.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 482px) 100vw, 482px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-14854\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">CENI agents adding identities of voters registered during the recent partial registration campaign in database<\/p><\/div>\n<p>This voters\u2019 registration campaign concerned Burundians who could not be registered in the Constitutional Referendum of May 2018 for various reasons.<\/p>\n<p>Pierre Claver Kazihise, Chairman of CENI indicated that the identities of people who registered in this campaign will be added to CENI databases in order to constitute a definitive electoral list. &#8220;This work will be completed by the end of January 2020,&#8221; said Kazihise.<\/p>\n<p>He also said that the provisional number of voters is 5, 128, 286. &#8220;4, 768, 142 voters were registered in 2018 while 117, 863 others were registered during the recent partial registration campaign,&#8221; he explains.<\/p>\n<p>Gaspard Butoyi, the General Manager of the Company that won the contract to design the software system being used by the CENI ensures that the database is sufficiently protected.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We do not use the electricity supplied by the Burundian company distributing water and electricity (REGIDESO) as it can damage our computers. In addition, smoke detectors are installed in all the rooms in which we work,&#8221; said Butoyi, adding that computers are sufficiently secured against cyber crime.<\/p>\n<p>Gaspard Banyankimbona, Minister of Higher Education who visited the CENI data processing center, says he is confident that the elections will run smoothly.<br \/>\n\u201cCENI members showed us the progress of this important activity.
