He said it during a media workshop preparing the launch of the World Breastfeeding Week this November 26, which will be celebrated in Ngozi province, on November 29.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_14550\" style=\"width: 489px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14550\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-14550\" src=\"https:\/\/www.iwacu-burundi.org\/englishnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/allaitement-maternel.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"479\" height=\"275\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.iwacu-burundi.org\/englishnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/allaitement-maternel.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.iwacu-burundi.org\/englishnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/allaitement-maternel-300x173.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.iwacu-burundi.org\/englishnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/allaitement-maternel-768x442.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.iwacu-burundi.org\/englishnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/allaitement-maternel-600x345.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 479px) 100vw, 479px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-14550\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A breastfeeding woman<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Mr. Nkezabahizi said even though those figures showed that they exclusively breastfeed their infants, those women need to be supported. \u201cMen don\u2019t help their spouses in domestic activities\u201d, he said adding that they don\u2019t even eat well. \u201cTheir diet isn\u2019t well=balanced\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Fid\u00e8le Nkezabahizi also said employers don\u2019t facilitate their breastfeeding employees. \u201cThey don\u2019t give them enough time to breastfeed their infants\u201d, he said. For him, family members should support and encourage breastfeeding. \u201cThis will contribute to the country\u2019s development as children will grow up healthy,&#8221; he concluded.<\/p>\n<p>According to WHO, breastfeeding promotes better health for mothers and children alike. Increasing breastfeeding to near-universal levels could save more than 800, 000 lives every year, the majority being children under 6 months. It is estimated that increased breastfeeding could avert 20 000 maternal deaths due to breast cancer each year.<\/p>\n<p>WHO recommends exclusive breastfeeding starting within one hour after birth until a baby is 6 months old.
