But the authorities shout out loud that the freedom of the press is respected, which is not the case,\u201d he says adding that justice should impartially deal with their case and release them. \u201cThey are innocent,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n<p>J.H, another journalist who has requested anonymity says there is no hope from the authorities. \u201cThey leave the responsibility to justice instead of pleading for the journalists\u2019 release,\u201d she says adding that the truth will end up triumphing. \u201cThey didn\u2019t do anything wrong that would cost them their freedom\u201d, she says.<\/p>\n<p>Another journalist says the decision to keep the four journalists in detention doesn\u2019t encourage Burundian journalists especially in the run up to the 2020 elections.<br \/>\n\u201cIt will not be easy to report on facts on the ground knowing that we would be arrested while looking for information,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n<p>Agn\u00e8s Ndirubusa, Christine Kamikazi, Egide Harerimana, T\u00e9rence Mpozenzi and their driver Adolphe Masabarakiza were arrested in Musigati commune in Bubanza province when they were trying to get the information on heavy gunfire that were heard in the dawn of October 22.<br \/>\nBubanza public prosecutor accused them of \u201ccomplicity in undermining the state internal security\u201d five days after their arrest.<\/p>\n<p>On November 20, The Ntahangwa Court of Appeal decided to <a href=\"https:\/\/iwacu.global.ssl.fastly.net\/englishnews\/four-iwacu-journalists-to-remain-detained-and-driver-to-be-temporarily-released\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">keep detaining<\/a> them and to temporarily release their driver.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cThey have just spent a month in jail while they didn\u2019t commit any crime,\u201d says a journalist working for a local radio station.
