{"id":14170,"date":"2019-10-18T06:28:19","date_gmt":"2019-10-18T06:28:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.iwacu-burundi.org\/englishnews\/?p=14170"},"modified":"2022-03-01T17:53:23","modified_gmt":"2022-03-01T17:53:23","slug":"burundi-to-achieve-un-programme-on-hiv-aids-90-90-90-targets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.iwacu-burundi.org\/englishnews\/burundi-to-achieve-un-programme-on-hiv-aids-90-90-90-targets\/","title":{"rendered":"Burundi to achieve UN Programme on HIV\/AIDS 90\u201390\u201390 targets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cBurundi attained a remarkable success in reducing HIV associated morbidity, mortality and transmission as well as improving the quality of life of people living with HIV,\u201d said Thadd\u00e9e Ndikumana, Minister of Health, at a public conference on productive health, organized on 17 October.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-14171 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.iwacu-burundi.org\/englishnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/SIDA2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"543\" height=\"312\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.iwacu-burundi.org\/englishnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/SIDA2.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.iwacu-burundi.org\/englishnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/SIDA2-300x173.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.iwacu-burundi.org\/englishnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/SIDA2-768x442.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.iwacu-burundi.org\/englishnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/SIDA2-600x345.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 543px) 100vw, 543px\" \/>According to him, people living with HIV who know their HIV status have increased from 40% in 2010 to 84% currently. \u201cThat increase from 40 to 84% proves that we have taken a big step forward, &#8220;said Minister of Health.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding the diagnosed HIV-positive persons receiving sustainable anti-retroviral treatment, the Minister said they have increased from 38% in 2010 to 83% today, while 89% of them have achieved viral suppression.<br \/>\nThe Minister is delighted that thanks to these positive results in the fight against HIV \/ AIDS, living conditions of seropositive persons have considerably improved. \u201cThey have good health and conduct their activities normally,\u201d he says<\/p>\n<p>Minister Ndikumana says by 2008, people infected with HIV \/ AIDS accounted for 6% while since 2019, HIV-positive persons represent 0.9% of the Burundian population. He, however, indicates that some provinces especially in big cities, people living with HIV \/ AIDS account for around 2%.<\/p>\n<p>In 2014, the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV\/AIDS and partners launched the 90\u201390\u201390 targets which aim to diagnose 90% of all HIV-positive persons, provide antiretroviral therapy for 90% of those diagnosed and achieve viral suppression for 90% of those treated by 2020.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cBurundi attained a remarkable success in reducing HIV associated morbidity, mortality and transmission as well as improving the quality of life of people living with HIV,\u201d said Thadd\u00e9e Ndikumana, Minister of Health, at a public conference on productive health, organized on 17 October.
