{"id":13649,"date":"2019-09-04T07:13:16","date_gmt":"2019-09-04T07:13:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.iwacu-burundi.org\/englishnews\/?p=13649"},"modified":"2019-09-04T07:13:16","modified_gmt":"2019-09-04T07:13:16","slug":"burundi-achieved-positive-results-in-combating-corruption-says-good-governance-minister","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.iwacu-burundi.org\/englishnews\/burundi-achieved-positive-results-in-combating-corruption-says-good-governance-minister\/","title":{"rendered":"Burundi achieved positive results in combating corruption, says Good Governance Minister"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>In the workshop held on September 3rd, the Burundian Minister of Good Governance has said Burundi has achieved good results in the fight against corruption.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_13646\" style=\"width: 527px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13646\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-13646\" src=\"https:\/\/www.iwacu-burundi.org\/englishnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/jeanne-kagayo.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"517\" height=\"297\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.iwacu-burundi.org\/englishnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/jeanne-kagayo.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.iwacu-burundi.org\/englishnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/jeanne-kagayo-300x173.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.iwacu-burundi.org\/englishnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/jeanne-kagayo-768x442.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.iwacu-burundi.org\/englishnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/jeanne-kagayo-600x345.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 517px) 100vw, 517px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-13646\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jeanne d\u2019Arc Kagayo: \u201cThe fight against corruption is a daily mission\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Jeanne d\u2019Arc Kagayo, Burundian Minister of Good Governance says several new administrative and judicial institutions have been created to combat corruption and corruption-related crimes.<br \/>\n\u201cThe government of Burundi has created institutions such as the National directorate in charge of controlling public contracts, the Special anti-corruption brigade, the Anti-corruption special court, etc.,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p>However, the Minister of Good Governance says there is still a long way to go to successfully combat corruption. \u201cThe fight against corruption and corruption- related crimes is an everyday mission,\u201d she adds.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Kagayo says the Government of Burundi is drawing up a capacity building program involving staff training activities for the repression of corruption and corruption-related crimes.<br \/>\nSaint Augustin Mwendambali, an expert in the fight against corruption says the Central African region to which Burundi belongs is the most corrupt region in Africa.<\/p>\n<p>He says corruption poses a big problem in the region. \u201cThere must be a political will to combat corruption,\u201d he adds.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Mwendambali says there should be sensitization and mobilization of people to eliminate corruption.<br \/>\n\u201cThe fight against corruption must be one of the priorities over the modernization of public administrations or services in Africa,\u201d says Begoto Miarom, Chairman of the African Union Advisory Board on Corruption.<\/p>\n<p>He calls on African countries to adopt measures to combat corruption and corruption-related crimes in the public services.<\/p>\n<p>According to t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.transparency.org\/\">he Corruption Perceptions Index 2018 by Transparency International<\/a> country\/BDI, Burundi is classified 170 out of 180 countries, a report that the Government of Burundi rejects categorically.<\/p>\n<p>The workshop was organized in the context of the consultation on the Central African Region regarding the implementation of the African Charter for the fight against corruption.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In the workshop held on September 3rd, the Burundian Minister of Good Governance has said Burundi has achieved good results in the fight against corruption.
