In the city of Bujumbura, most of the women are dressed in Kitenge clothes on this special day. Among those interviewed, they say the date of 8 March symbolizes honor and respect to them.<\/p>\n

Most Burundian women celebrated the day in Kitenge clothes.<\/p><\/div>\n

M.N, a woman met in the center of the city, says she is very happy to celebrate this day. \u201cI am very happy. This day was not celebrated in the previous years. It shows that we are now supported, it is an honor to all women\u201d<\/p>\n

For Anne Marie Nshimirimana, another woman met in the town, says it is a great honor to be remembered worldwide. \u201cIt is truly a great joy as the world remembers that a woman is essential and can contribute to the development of a country\u201d.<\/p>\n

Some women say this day dedicated to them should be to a holiday. Chantal Uwimana, says \u201cIt’s true we love to work but the day should be a day off so that we could rest and enjoy it with friends\u201d.<\/p>\n

Another woman asks the government to continue supporting women in all sectors. \u201cWe have 30% of women in the institutions but we want to have 50% because women are also capable of doing what men can do\u201d.<\/p>\n

The women’s day has been celebrated in every corner of the country. Various women’s rights organizations have joined the government to officially celebrate it in Gitega, the new political capital.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
