The semi-final for the national contest has taken place at the University of Burundi, this 29 November. The universities of \u201c Lumi\u00e8re de Bujumbura, \u201c Lac Tanganyika\u201d , \u201cISCAM\u201d and High Institute of Police Officers will compete in the final contest set on 30 November.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_10889\" style=\"width: 415px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10889\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-10889\" src=\"http:\/\/www.iwacu-burundi.org\/englishnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/cicr-concours.jpg\" alt=\"Contestants should act as lawyers who are defending the victims \" width=\"405\" height=\"233\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.iwacu-burundi.org\/englishnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/cicr-concours.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.iwacu-burundi.org\/englishnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/cicr-concours-300x173.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.iwacu-burundi.org\/englishnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/cicr-concours-768x442.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.iwacu-burundi.org\/englishnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/cicr-concours-600x345.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 405px) 100vw, 405px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-10889\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Contestants should act as lawyers who are defending the victims<\/p><\/div>\n<p>All contestants have to present their arguments about a fictitious case where they are required to denounce the situations of human rights violations.<\/p>\n<p>Merveille Mugisha, one of the contestants from the \u201cUniversit\u00e9 du Lac Tanganyika\u201d says this competition has pushed her to do research and make improvement in her field. \u201cI know now how to qualify some crimes and consult the international jurisdiction tools,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p>Daddy Oumarou, in charge of communication at the International Conference for Red Cross -ICRC, which organized the competition in collaboration with the University of Burundi, says the competition will improve the students&#8217; knowledge. \u201cStudents should act as lawyers who are defending the victims and should know how to behave in some circumstances,\u201d says Oumarou.<\/p>\n<p>Not only does this competition improve the academic knowledge, but also, it allows contestants to raise awareness of their colleagues who are the future decision-makers. The winners at the final stage of the competition will represent the country in the Regional Great Lakes Countries\u2019 Contest. Ten universities had participated in the national contest.
