During this summit, a political declaration which will reaffirm the values of Nelson Mandelawill be adopted.<\/p>\n<p>The United Nations continues to honour distinguished African leaders who have contributed to peace building. \u201cNelson Mandela was one of humanity\u2019s great leaders.He embodied the highest values of the United Nations. He devoted his life to serving his community \u2013 as a lawyer, a prisoner of conscience, a peacemaker, President and a respected elder\u201d, said Antonio Guteress, the UN SG in the remark of this peace summit.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, at the tribute session of the seventh Secretary General Kofi Annan,the current UN SG, Antonio Guterres said he has an enormous debt of gratitude towards Kofi Annan. \u201cI would very probably not be here if he had not chosen me to become, thirteen years ago, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees,\u201d said Mr Guterres.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The United Nations General Assembly has organised this 24 September, a day before the start of the General Debate of the 73rd session of the General Assembly, a peace summit in honour of Nelson Mandela.
