UGANDA, KENYA, RWANDA: Implementation of One Network Area Roaming Hastened by Leaders

Regional leaders called for the speedy implementation of a ‘One Network Area,’which will reduce the cost of calling, SMS and other data and mobile financial services across the three countries. At the Northern Corridor Integration Projects Summit held in Nairobi last week, Museveni of Uganda, Kagame of Rwanda and Kenyatta of Kenya directed their respective Ministers of Finance and ICT to resolve all outstanding issues by the end of January 2015, and to operationalize and implement the One Network Area.
Under the agreement, subscribers from all member countries will no longer be subject to any roaming charges within the region. Tanzania and Burundi are currently not included in the network.
