Two people killed in center of Burundi, police say

Two people were killed and 14 others wounded in a grenade attack that occurred in the night of 1 April, in a bar on Rugari-Gitamo hill, known as Ceru in Gitega Commune, in Gitega Central province.

Sources on the ground report that several people were sharing a drink when the grenade exploded. People were pushing and shoving and others screaming. “One person died on the spot and another died from his injuries after he was rushed to the hospital by ambulance,” says a source on ground.

According to the same sources, this cabaret is located at about fifty meters from a police station. Police say four people have been arrested for investigative reasons.

In the same night at around 7:30 p.m., unidentified people ambushed a vehicle with a license plate of the neighboring DRCongo on the National Road (RN5) in Gihanga Commune of Bubanza western province. This vehicle was coming from Cibitoke province going to Bujumbura. Police spokesman, Pierre Nkurikiye says “a person who was in the attacked vehicle was slightly wounded by a bullet adding that the driver drove on.
