The local organization NAD (New Action for Development) was founded to improve the image of Burundi at the international level and protect the Burundi youth from manipulators.

Joseph Maniramfasha, the legal representative of the NGO, explained that their objectives are to fight “disinformation and rumours about Burundi propagated by manipulators including the members of civil society organizations that fled the country and to combat youth unemployment and poverty”.

He deplored that manipulators give to foreign audience a negative image of Burundi that is completely different from the reality. To counter that, “we have created communication channels to give the true image of Burundi”. Maniramfasha said that referring to a website the NGO has created.

According to him, security and ethnic issues are not the real problems in Burundi as portrayed by the enemies of the country. The real problem is poverty and youth unemployment. For that “we will help them acquire the mindset that creating their own jobs instead of waiting upon the government after graduation is possible”, he said. The NGO strategy will be developing creativity and enhancing productivity in the youth.

Joseph is confident that his NGO will succeed in its mission because Burundians are with them. Moreover, the story of his life compels him to believe that the Burundian youth can take their destiny in their own hands just as he, a self-made man who was born from peasants, did.

NAD officially launched its activities this Tuesday during inaugural ceremonies hosted in Source du Nil hotel under the patronage of the office of the second Vice-President of the Republic.
