At least 250 investigative journalists from across Africa have been invited to a conference organized yearly by the Journalism Program of the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa from 7 to 9 November 2016.

Veteran investigative journalists from across the world have also attended the workshop to share their experience with their fellow investigative journalists from the African continent.

The sessions of that three-day event included among others the narrative journalism crash course, investigative stories on terrorism, corruption, climate change, police brutality, physical security training, the art of interviewing and how to do an access to information request in Africa and across the world.

Attendees have been called on to run groundbreaking projects into corruption and abuse of power, launch investigative teams and nonprofit centers and spread investigative reporting to where it is most needed.

All speakers converged on the fact that journalists in general and investigative ones in particular face a number of challenges when doing their daily job especially that they tackle sensitive issues that often involve government officials.

A global investigative journalism conference will be held in Africa for the first time in 2017 to highlight, support and promote investigative work.
