Eight policemen have been injured after they were shot by their colleague Samuel Nduwimana, one of the police officers in charge of road safety-PSR, in the early morning of this Thursday 2 February 2017.

Pierre Nkurikiye, Spokesman for the Burundian police, says Nduwimana woke up at 2 am, took his gun and entered a room where his fellow policemen were. He, then, started to shoot at them randomly. Eight of them were injured.

Nkurikiye has also said that, after shooting at his fellows, Nduwimana shot at himself and got injured. “All of them, including Nduwimana, were brought to hospital”, he said.

“What surprises people is that Nduwimana hadn’t any problem with his colleagues”, says the police spokesman. Nkurikiye has added that some police officers who live with Nduwimana say he has started to show some signs of madness.

Nkurikiye calls on all the policemen to respect the laws that govern them so as not to commit such a crime again.
