Burundi opposition to speak same language

The internal and external opposition met from 21 to 23 September in Entebbe, Uganda to discuss a common document to submit to the office of the facilitation in the inter-Burundian dialogue. The meeting brought together CNARED members and those from the internal opposition in “Ngurdoto platform” which refers to the fourth session of the inter-Burundian dialogue chaired by the internal opposition. It includes the coalition of Independents “Amizero y’Abarundi” and Sahwanya Frodebu party.

Evariste Ngayimpenda, deputy chairman of “Ngurdoto platform”, says they met to talk about the current crisis that erupted in Burundi in 2015 and find solutions. “It’s important to have the same view. Burundi really needs to overcome the current situation,” he says adding that it was the third meeting organized after the fourth dialogue session.

After a three-day discussion, participants agreed upon a common document that they have submitted to the office of the facilitation in the inter-Burundian dialogue. “ We expect to attend the upcoming fifth dialogue session with the same vision and are ready to hold credible, free and fair elections”, says Ngayimpenda.

He also says the gathering was organized after meeting the delegation of the facilitation in the inter-Burundian dialogue and the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary, Michel Kafando. The two delegations visited Burundi respectively on 16 August and 3 September. They met Burundi government, political parties including the opposition and the civil society organizations. “The discussion focused on the upcoming dialogue session,” says Ngayimpenda.

As for Burundi government, whether the opposition members meet or not, the government’s concern remains the 2020 elections. “Other issues found solutions in the new Constitution,” wrote the spokesperson for the ministry of Home Affairs in his tweet.
