Buganda: 26 dead and 7 wounded in an attack

Twenty four people died on the spot and two others at the hospital after their evacuation in Bujumbura city. This has been said this Saturday, May 12, by Alain-Guillaume Bunyoni, Minister of Public Security, after an attack perpetrated in the night of this Friday in Ruhagarika area of Buganda commune in Cibitoke province, in the north west of Burundi. According to him, this attack was carried out by “terrorists” from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

“The operation did not take a long time. They retreated to this country after the attack”. The security minister says communication with Congolese authorities is ongoing to track down the “terrorists”.According to the information collected on the spot, at least 11 children under the age of 15 have lost their lives in the attack. Minister Bunyoni was accompanied by Prime Niyongabo, Burundi army chief of staff, Godefroid Bizimana, Deputy Director General of the Burundian police and natives of this province such as General Silas Ntigurirwa, Secretary of the National Security Council.

Guillaume Bunyoni has said the government will pay all the expenses related to the burial of the victims and the treatment of the wounded. “Families of thevictims will be assisted as well,” he has said.
